Canberra

Vista of Canberra

Pulled into the Capital City of Canberra on Sunday afternoon.  For those not familiar with Australian history, Canberra was chosen n 1908 as the site of the Capital, halfway between Sydney and Melbourne.  It is a very beautiful city with plenty of land and green space.  Awaiting our arrival were Phyllis and Jim, the most superb hosts.  Phyllis showed us to our apartment, located across the street from theirs, and told us to be ready  in a hour for a tour around the city.
Jim and Phyllis drove us to all the highlights, mostly vistas so one could get an idea of how the city is laid out with a river dividing it, which was thoughtfully designed.  We were enjoying ourselves as typical tourists seeing the sites at one place where there were three other American men.  One of them turned to us and asked where we were from.  We answered and we in turn inquired of him the same.  He said, "I work here."  Then we asked what did he do and he said, "I am the Ambassador."    Phyllis then recognized him and we proceeded to have a conversation and photo op.  Phyllis and Jim said he was a very good Ambassador and well-liked by the Australians.   As you can see we took advantage of the photo op!

Following this serendipitous encounter we went to the other side of the city to pop the cork with champagne
with Phyllis and Jim officially welcoming us to Canberra, meaning the "meeting place" in Aborigine.

Since I had mentioned many time that I wanted to see kangaroos in the wild we went to the golf course to find  them.

We were not disappointed!
